Pleats are back for Autumn! If you thought it was the season of the trouser and jeans, you thought wrong. I for one couldn’t be happier to be donning my comfort zone of skirts, thick tights and boots but for those who aren’t so thrilled to have another season of leg bearing styles fear not. You’re not going to catch a cold because bundling up is the name of the game – all you need to do is ensure that you showcase the fact that you actually have legs OR a waist and the rest can be as layered as you like.
Taylor Swift has been rocking some major pleats this season already and there are endless ways to wear this trend. If you’re after a very feminine, demure look you could opt for a chiffon A line skirt in pastel paired with a blouse. Feeling edgy? Not a problem, get yourself a black turtle neck and a pleather pleated mini on the go. If you’re a curvier lady, like myself, depending on where you hold your weight you might want to stick to more structured styles rather than free flowing as these tend to emphasize the larger parts of you – while a pleated mini with sturdy box pleats made from a heavy fabric will hold its shape wonderfully rather than fighting with those hips and thighs. Slimmer girls with those lovely slim pins can pull off the shorter floatier styles a la Taylor but equally can rock a slightly more figure hugging look – just be sure to make the most of that silhouette by drawing the eye inward at the waist OR outward at the thigh to create a subtle hourglass.
The best part about this trend is the fact that you can layer up with thick tights and knee high boots while still showing off your shape.
